How to Stay Healthy While on Vacation in 2020-2021
Embarking on frequent vacations is a necessary exercise to maintaining a healthy psychological and physical status. Scientists indicate that vacations improve heart health, relieve stress, and enhance overall happiness, especially in the workplace and at home. However, staying healthy while on vacation grew a whole lot more complex in 2020 because of COVID-19. Travelers now have to don masks, social distance, and follow rigid wellness protocols.
While these crucial measures don’t mar the always-marvelous experience here at Woodloch, there’s no denying that we’re all hyperfocused on keeping each other safe at all times. Thus, we created a brief beneficial guide about how to stay healthy while vacationing this winter (and beyond) at Woodloch, the top-rated family resort in the U.S.
17 Ways to Stay Healthy on Vacation
As we note in our special statement, the Woodloch Wellness Standard, staying healthy on vacation in 2020 and 2021 is a team effort. Our guests cannot stay safe without our aggressive cleaning protocols, health assessments, social distancing guidelines, and protective equipment. On the same token, our guests cannot stay safe without help from other like-minded families. We’re happy to report that things have been running as smoothly as ever, even in the midst of a pandemic, thanks to the immeasurable efforts of so many essential workers. And our loyal guests continue to do a tremendous job following our Wellness Standard. Without further ado, here are 17 ways to stay healthy during that long-awaited vacation:
- Practice proper social distancing.
- Wear a mask.
- Wash your hands regularly. Carrying around a travel-size hand sanitizer at all times does wonders!
- Follow the Woodloch Wellness Standard. Together we can stop the spread.
- Eat healthily. Our culinary team makes this step as easy as pie—hopefully a low-calorie, low-fat pie.
- Get active, stay active. Thankfully, Woodloch’s 1,200-acre property offers everything from a climbing wall to tennis courts and, of course, the Winter Olympics.
- Sleep in. It’s a vacation, after all.
- Try new things, such as a bake-off, archery practice, or water skiing. It’s not a vacation unless you do something that scares you!
- Book a stay in a spacious vacation rental. The extra space makes social distancing seem like a piece of cake.
- Drive instead of flying. Road trips are more fun anyway.
- Experiencing COVID-19 symptoms prior to your vacation? Get tested, stay home, and read up about our new cancellation policy.
- Stay hydrated. Remember: the average adult should drink at least two liters of water per day (approximately eight eight-ounce glasses).
- Minimize your dependence on technology. Work can wait. Social media can wait. Netflix can wait. A true digital detox can be utterly rejuvenating, especially for teens.
- Come prepared with proper vitamins and medication. Know your body. Be prepared for (just about) anything.
- Get vaccinated. Follow the CDC’s vaccination guidelines.
- Lay off the caffeine for a few days. Coffee (and/or energy drinks) will still be there when you return home.
- Allot time for relaxation. Seems counterintuitive at Woodloch, but don’t be afraid to nap on the beach, walk through the woods, read a book in your room, or fish for some walleye or pike in Lake Teedyuskung.
