Woodloch At Home: Easter Games

After the egg hunts have been concluded, we’ve got a couple of really great Easter games you can enjoy at home with the kids! You’ll need just a few basic supplies to participate:

1 – Bag of Jellybeans
1- Box of Raisinets or other small chocolate candy
Cotton Balls
Vaseline
Piece of paper with drawn rabbit (or PDF printout here)
Bowl
5 plastic cups
Tape
Plastic Eggs
Spoons of varying sizes

Jelly Bean Jumble – Take a bag of jellybeans and place into a bowl and place in the middle of a table. Take an ice cube tray or plastic cups and as a team or individuals, attempt to keep one hand behind your back while you separate the jelly bean colors into individual ice cube slots or cups. Do for time. Can do best of 3.

Peter “CottonTail” – For this, think pin the tail on the donkey with a twist. You will print out a picture of the Easter bunny (here is the PDF) and attach it to a wall in your house. You will dip cotton balls in Vaseline, so they can stick to the print out target. Start a short distance away and attempt to “play darts” by throwing the cotton balls at the bunny’s tail, trying to get them to stick. If you miss, get your cotton ball and get back on line, if you make it, get another. You get one point per cotton ball you get to stick to the page.

Eggsercise – In this game, you will put out several plastic eggs in an egg carton or in some area where they are all together in a pile. Before placing eggs out however, you will write out several exercises (ex. 5 pushups, 10 jumping jacks, etc) and hide them inside of the egg. One at a time, you go out to the egg pile, open an egg and see what exercise you have to do. Upon completion, you run back and tag the next person to go.

Egg and Spoon – Use a hard boiled or plastic egg. Put two markers out or make an obstacle course. Start by placing egg in a ladle, move to a cooking spoon, to tablespoon, to teaspoon and if you’re feeling frisky, a baby spoon. Do for time. Can be done as a race, using big spoons for kids and small spoons for adults to even the playing field.

Egg Hunt With a Twist – Using plastic eggs, place 1 jelly bean in it, or 1 raisinet (no raisinets? any chocolate candy will do). Spread the eggs out for the kids to collect as many as they can. Give them a basket to put them in. At the end of the time limit (2 minutes or when all of the eggs are found), open the eggs. Every jelly bean is 2 points, and every raisinet (bunny poop) is -1. Highest score wins. This is a great equalizer for families with children of varying ages.

Woodloch’s Concert From The Couch

We live to entertain- so we wanted to bring you a little something special, direct to your living room in this stressful time!

Our team of personalities, musicians and entertainers has been hard at work putting together a special show, and we are looking to have our guests JOIN us. We encourage all of our talented musicians and singers out there to submit their absolute best work and upload virtual submissions for our #WoodlochAtHome “Concert From The Couch!”

Woodloch At Home: Olympics

We love our Olympic games so much that we thought we’d share an easy “at home” version of the game that’s great for all ages! Using common household items and setting aside just a little time to build some “props,” you too can host your own version of the iconic games!

Paper Plate Memory
Items Needed

9 – 16 paper plates (the more plates, the more challenging a game)
Laundry Basket

Rules: Take your paper plates and pair them off. Take your first pair and on the front (side you would put food on) draw an identical picture on each one. If you
lack artistic ability, use shapes and colors instead of drawings. Lay out your plates, drawing side down, in an even array (3×3, 4×4, etc) and make sure you mix up the pairs well. Turn based game to see who can get more matches. If you want to make it more fast paced, start players a short distance away and make them go
back before they can make another attempt.

Laundry Basket Skeeball
Items needed

Laundry Basket
Tape
Ball (any size)
Cardboard Box

Open box until it is flat. Use this to construct a ramp. You can use a second box, chair, or toy to elevate ramp. Set up a few feet away from your ramp. If you have a second laundry basket, you can set it up as well, farther from the ramp for more points. Set up so that you are a few feet away from your makeshift ramp. Roll ball up the ramp and attempt to land it in laundry basket.

Paper Plate Ring Toss
Items Needed

Paper Towel Tube
Tape
Paper Plates

Cut the middle of the plate out with a pair of scissors so that you are now left with a ring (you can color plates before you cut them if you want to have different color rings). Tape paper towel tube to the floor. You could also tape it to an empty tissue box. If you want, you could also use a toilet paper tube and make that worth more points.

Rules: Tape paper towel tube to the floor and step back a few feet. Use paper plate rings to try to get a “ringer”. Points could also be awarded for hitting the “pin”.

Baby Bottle Bowling
Items Needed

3 – 6 Baby Bottles / Water Bottles
Any size ball
Masking Tape (not required but helpful! Used to mark pin placeholders)

Rules: Set up baby bottles about the same distance apart as the width of whatever ball you are using. Once set, use tape to mark where the pins are on the
floor, for consistency. Give one point per pin knocked over. Give bonus points for strikes and spares. Do as a relay for time or a set number of frames.

Construction Paper Croquet
Items Needed

Ball
Tape
Broomstick (optional)
Construction paper (cut in half- will be taped to the floor and used as tunnels for the croquet ball)

Rules: There are two ways to set this game. One way is you make an “obstacle course” of tunnels through where you must shoot your ball. You can use a
broomstick, a soda bottle, or even your lungs to blow the ball through the course. The object of the game is to get back to the start, using the least amount of
strokes. The other way is by setting up 3 or 4 tunnels different lengths apart. Standing behind a starting line or marker, use the broomstick, empty soda bottler, or breath to try and shoot the ball through the tunnel. The farther the tunnel, the more points.

Woodloch At Home: In-It-To-Win-It!

It’s one of our favorite “back pocket” games, perfect for when our resort has an unexpected rain day. The good news is that you don’t have to be a world-champion athlete to compete- half of these games rely heavily just on skill. And better yet- they almost all involve supplies that you already have laying around the house!

Put yourself together a little gauntlet of challenges (that require very little space). And, like Woodloch, award points on how teams finish cumulatively across all events. Bring your Woodloch medals out of the trophy case and repurpose them for your own personal IN-IT-TO-WIN-IT! (Play a little bit of Van Halen and you’ll even keep Joey there in spirit)

IN IT TO WIN IT

WATER BOTTLE TOSS – start with a half-full bottle of water. The object of the game is simple- flip the bottle and try to get it to land standing up. It looks easy, but really isn’t! See how many times you are able to do it in 2 minutes solo, or go head-to-head versus a friend.

QUARTER ROLL – gather up all the loose change you can find, preferably quarters for ease! At one end of a table or counter, set up forks “face up.” At the other end, have contestants roll quarters from one end to the other in hopes that quarters will land between the prongs! One point per quarter, try to outscore your opponents! 1 -2 minute time limit works best.

THE SKITTLE LABYRINTH – find yourself a few straws and a bag of Skittles / M&M’s / Reese’s Pieces or Smarties. Using just suction from the straw, pick up one of the candies and try to navigate a little maze put together in your living room or yard- around the coffee table, through the kitchen, down the stairs etc. You’ll score a point for every candy that makes its way into a cup or bowl at the other end- drop the candy and you lose your turn. Score it either as a head-to-head race or get as many reps in 2 minutes as possible!

STICKY NOSE – you might get a little messy here! Put just a dab of petroleum jelly on your nose and pick up a cottonball on one side of the room. Try to get all the way to the other end of your corridor / dining / living room and shake off the cotton ball into a bowl. See how many reps you can get in over 2 minutes!

BONUS GAMES!

BATTERY BALANCE – find a yardstick and a couple of heavy batteries (we recommend 9 volts or D’s for balancing purpose. Have your competitors go down a hallway / driveway from one point to another while keeping the batteries balanced on the end of the yard stick. Drop the battery, and you’re forced back to the starting line! Best time wins the points!

FIZZY PLOP DRINK – you know what happens when you mix Mentos and Diet Soda? BOOM. Find a stairwell, or deck- somewhere you can reach over and drop a Mento. Aim for an open can of cola below- just make sure you have the mess under control. A big bucket should contain the eruption under control. Play for 2 minutes to see how many pops you get, or race against a friend.

EGG PONG – Locate an egg carton container or two, as well as a few ping pong / super balls. As the name dictates, the object of the game is to bounce the ball from one end of the table to the other. Land in the carton, and you’ll score points. Spice it up by coloring different spots with a marker and making them “bonus double / triple” zones. Play for two minutes or head to head.

PAPER FOOTBALL FRENZY – We’ve been training for this moment since we were little kids at recess- now’s the time to showcase your skill! Fold up a few of these bad boys, find a table or counter, and either craft a mini goal post or go old school with a friend playing the roll. See how many field goals you can kick within the time limit!
