The Festival of Lights

All guests have the exclusive privilege to hop aboard a wagon ride through our wilderness trail where a lengthy, colorful display ensues. Spooky Halloween Vacations in the Poconos

While we just flipped the calendar to September, families are already daydreaming about the spookiest holiday of the year: Halloween. From early October well into November, Woodloch Resort (the top-rated family resort in the U.S.) celebrates All Hallows’ Eve in style alongside hundreds of families from across the Northeast. Little superheroes, skeletons, and princesses can partake in a wide variety of playful, festive activities ranging from spine-chilling haunted hayrides to stimulating scarecrow-building contests. We’ve quickly evolved into one of the premier Halloween vacations on the East Coast since the emergence of our haunted hayride, but don’t forget about all of our crowd-pleasing amenities, such as the Broadway-style theme shows and our indoor splash zone.

The Haunted Hayride

Our haunted hayride improves each year as we continue to hire ultra-talented actors, add high-tech props, and insert new hip characters into our “monster lineup.” Unlike most Halloween vacations in the region, we feature a slew of brand new characters each year. These hayrides aren’t recommended for “little ghouls” as they can be scary for children (and even some adults). You never know who you’re going to encounter on this backwoods trail—witches, chainsaw-wielding maniacs, killer clowns, and deranged doctors have been sighted in the past.

Top 10 On-Site Activities

Not all of our Halloween-themed activities are as frightening as the haunted hayride. In fact, most of these activities, adventures, and events are geared toward guests of all ages, especially children. For decades, we’ve hosted thousands of first-class Halloween vacations for families—so, we’ve seen what works for the whole family and what doesn’t. To ensure that your autumn excursion to Hawley, PA is nothing short of flawless, we’ve compiled ten of our favorite autumn activities.

  1. Trick or treating
  2. Pumpkin painting
  3. Costume party
  4. “Halloween Wars” – a creative bakery-themed competition
  5. “Boo-Lympics” – Halloween-themed Olympic games
  6. Halloween scavenger hunt
  7. Halloween parade
  8. Scarecrow decorating
  9. Halloween arts and crafts
  10. Escape rooms (for an additional nominal fee)

Spooktacular Packages | Halloween Vacations

For decades, families have been escaping to the Pocono Mountains for great Halloween vacations because we have a passion for pumpkins, candy, and playful scares. We wouldn’t be one of the top-rated Halloween getaways near New York City without our all-inclusive Spooktacular Weekend and Midweek packages. Each package includes overnight accommodations, family-style meals, and a seemingly endless array of Halloween-themed activities. If you take a glance at last year’s itinerary, you’ll notice that you and your family can partake in upwards of 30 on-site activities in one weekend.

3 Family-Friendly Things to Do in the Poconos

Woodloch Resort is widely considered the top-ranked family resort in North America because of our all-inclusive packages, homegrown activities, world-class service, and proximity to New York City. And while you’ll never have to leave our 1,200-acre resort for fun, food, or scenery, it’s not uncommon for families, groups, and couples to veer off-campus for a bit of mid-day exploration during a week-long Poconos getaway to Woodloch. There are dozens of family-friendly things to do in the Poconos such as rafting, hiking, skiing, shopping, and antiquing, which is why we compiled three of the most popular nearby attractions among guests.

Claws ‘N’ Paws Wild Animal Park

Unless you’re visiting us from the Scranton area, you’ve likely never heard of Claws ‘N’ Paws Wild Animal Park, but this jaw-dropping zoo has evolved into one of the best things to do in the Poconos. Claws ‘N’ Paws is especially fun for children as they’ll get to feed a wide variety of baby animals, such as giraffes, deer, goats, sheep, and parrots! Some of the most adorable animals at Claws ‘N’ Paws, which is set deep in the woods, include otters, Arctic foxes, wolves, bobcats, and prairie dogs.

Bushkill Falls

Bushkill Falls, “the Niagara of Pennsylvania,” is on everyone’s list of the top things to do in the Poconos due to the sheer beauty of this privately-owned, 300-acre park. Many of our guests visit Bushkill Falls before or after their stay at Woodloch, home to the best Poconos resorts. Four on-site hiking trails follow Little Bushkill Creek and Pond Run Creek, both of which trickle down this impressive, deep-forest gorge. The two-mile Red Trail loop meanders past all eight waterfalls! You’ll also discover on-site fishing, paddle-boating, picnicking, and miniature golf.

Wallenpaupack Scenic Boat Tour

Lake Wallenpaupack, which was popularized by NBC’s The Office, is the third largest lake in Pennsylvania. The 11-mile journey from Woodloch Resort to Lake Wallenpaupack is well worth the trip if you’re an avid angler, but you can also hop aboard a 50-minute scenic cruise to learn more about the region. The Wallenpaupack Scenic Boat Tour motors along the most beautiful stretches of the lake as the captain shares information about the area’s geography and history.

Things to Do in the Poconos

If you’re planning on visiting us during the wintertime, the top attraction in the area is Ski Big Bear, a nearby skiing destination located in the heart of the Pocono Mountains. Regardless of when you venture to Hawley, PA, your all-inclusive family vacation at Woodloch will be filled to the brim with excitement, delicious cuisine, live entertainment, and comfort!
