5 Places to Learn about Area History
With a past including key events like the signing of the Declaration of Independence and hosting the Constitutional Convention, Pennsylvania has a long and storied history. An excellent way to dive into some of what shaped the state into what it is today is by visiting museums found a short drive from our Poconos resort.
- Found within the Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River Park is the Zane Grey Museum. The museum is filled with memorabilia, photographs, and books in the rooms that were the office and study of Zane Grey, an author regarded as one of the 20th century’s most popular Western writers.
- The Wayne County Historical Society is home to a full-size replica of the Stourbridge Lion, the first train to run on commercial tracks in the county. In addition to the main museum, this society also manages other museums like a restored country school and an old jail.
- Learn about the past generations of those who called the Wallenpaupack area home at the Wallenpaupack Historical Society. View historical artifacts donated by local families, some dating back to founding settlements.
- Dorfliger-Suydam is comprised of several attractions. The Dorflinger Glass Museum is home to the country’s most extensive collection of Dorflinger glass. The exhibits showcase more than 1,000 pieces of crystal.
- Another way to view stunning examples of craftsmanship from the Dorflinger Glass Company is at the Dorflinger Factory Museum. Located inside the restored cutting shop and factory office, the exhibits tell the history of the company and Christian Dorflinger.
